Day Trippin' ...yeah!

We day tripped to the Yorktown beach...



It was soooo hot (like 98 degrees)
but we had a lot of fun regardless...



the water was nice until a crab pinched my finger...



...we had been longing for a beach day and had been meaning to check out Yorktown.
It was so pretty and the kids were catching all kinds of things...



...yes, big and beautiful boats just float by.

We'll definitely be back Yorktown, thanks!

Mia and her Mel shoes

Mia has a fuzzy pair of shoes that she's had for long time (2 and 1/2 years to be exact). She loves them with all of her heart.

The left shoe is stitched with a "D" and on the right shoe a "G".

She calls them her Mel shoes. Named after a super-fun babysitter Mel from a couple summers ago. Mel owned a pair of funky shoes that had been written on, ripped up and held together by a half a roll of duct tape.

When Mia got her new shoes 2 and 1/2 years ago it was love at first sight. She immediately observed how much they reminded her of Mel.

"My Mel shoes go where I go", says Mia. And they do.



Me-"Your Mel shoes are dirty"

Daddy-"Your Mel shoes are torn and ratty"

Mia-"No, they are perfect!"

And they are.

School is starting soon and Mia can't bring her Mel shoes to school.

They do not even sell these shoes ANYWHERE anymore...we've looked and looked...

Mia has refused any other shoes that we've found.

What are we going to do?

Every time I mention to her that we ARE going to get a new pair of shoes and NO we are not going to keep the Mel shoes...

she gives me a face...

I have an idea...

It's an absolutely wonderful, positively perfect, especially terrific idea!

I will snip and sew some of her Mel shoes onto her new shoes.

Now we just have to find a new pair of shoes that will last for another couple of years...

...any ideas?
